American Football Passing & Catching Drill

One of the most important skills in American Football is catching the ball the right way while running. There are plenty of drills that one can practice to get it right, and doing so will help you get better at the game.

We’re highlighting one of the most important ones today – the Tennis Ball, Wall Ball drill.

What is the Tennis Ball, Wall Ball drill?

For this drill, a player must stand about 5 feet from a wall, facing it. Another player/coach then stands behind the receiver and throws tennis balls at high speeds. The receiver needs to keep one hand on their back and catch the ball quickly with the other.

Once the tennis balls are exhausted, the receiver has to switch hands and catch the balls with the other one. Try to vary the speed of the delivery so there’s also movement involved in catching the ball. Ensure that the balls are not touching the floor when receiving.

What are the benefits of the Tennis Ball, Wall Ball drill?

One of the main benefits of this drill is the fact that it helps receivers improve their reflexes and movement. There is a certain level of mobility involved as well because the drill necessitates the receiver to be quick on their feet while catching the balls.

The Tennis Ball, Wall Ball drill can be practiced with all receivers, with the quarterbacks throwing the balls.
