Father-Son Duos in Baseball

One of the ways sports unites people is it gives them a sense of belonging. However, when you get to continue your parents’ legacy through the sport, the sense of belonging is even greater, and is one of the reasons sports is a global uniting factor.

In baseball, there have been 255 father-son duos who have performed. Here are some of the best:

  • Vladimir Guerrero & Vladimir Guerrero Jr:

Vladimir Guerrero played seven seasons with the Expos and averaged 33 home runs, 100 RBI and also 173 hits. He came within one home run of beating the 40/40 mark in stolen bases and home runs back in 2002, and is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

His son, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., is seen as one of baseball’s top prospects currently, and takes after his dad, having exceptional hitting prowess. He has the highest rating for hitting — scoring an 80 in the 20-80 scouting scale.

  •  Craig and Cavan Biggio:

Craig was a Hall of Famer who ended up with 3,060 hits and played multiple positions. From catcher to second base to center field, he did it all in a career that spanned 20 seasons.

Cavan takes after his dad and has shown some potential. He hit a .234 during his rookie year, but also drew plenty of walks.

  • Fernando Tatis & Fernando Tatis Jr.:

Fernando Tatis was a professional third baseman and still holds the record for runs batted in within one inning. He achieved the feat by smashing two grand slams in one inning back in 1999.

His son, Fernando Tatis Jr. is seen as one of the most exciting prospects, and is a shortstop with the San Diego Padres. He’s currently on a 14-year, $340 million extension contract with them.
