Outdoor push-ups

Great Exercises For When The Gym Is Closed

Getting to the gym isn’t always possible. Lockdowns forced many to close, and millions found themselves looking for alternative ways to exercise. A lot of us can’t or aren’t in a position to access the equipment available in a gym and such situations require you to well…think inside the box!

By this, we mean using your home as a makeshift gym and your body as the replacement for weights. With plenty of bodyweight exercises designed for this specific purpose, here are a few excellent bodyweight exercises:

  • Push-ups

Yes, the dreaded ol’ push-ups. They’re actually not so hard if you set realistic targets and set forth to achieve them. If you’re new to push-ups, you can start slow – by challenging yourself to complete 10 pushups and then increase the number every day.

The best part about push-ups is the fact that it works your chest muscles, shoulders and arms, giving you a good upper-body workout in a matter of minutes.

  • Lunges

Lunges are another excellent body exercise you can do at home, with daily objects as weights like rice bags if needed.

They will help you strengthen your lower body, especially your quads, back muscles, glutes and hamstrings for starters!

  • Burpees

You can also get yourself a nice cardio exercise with burpees. They can be done at great speed if you want to increase intensity and time yourself to do it better. Burpees require you to go into a push-up position, stand up straight, jump and get back to the initial position.

These exercises are more than enough to get your heart racing, sweat pouring and calories burning…all at the comfort of your home! Try them out and prepare yourself physically till the gym opens.
