One of the most popular sports for competitive and casual play is volleyball. The game requires plenty of physical energy and coordinated teamwork. Due to its storied history, there have been plenty of records which have been set, and subsequently broken.
One of the biggest records is that of the most number of title wins by any franchise. It’s a record which needs a strong team to achieve it.
The Naranjito team’s introduction of dominance
Changos de Naranjito is one of the most popular and successful teams in the Puerto Rico league. The history of volleyball in the Naranjito area dates back to 1915, when two North American professors arrived in the town to introduce the sport.
The Reverend in the town, Jason took the opportunity to share the sport with the town’s youth, and helped professors teach the rules of the game, and thus made friendships. After remaining in the town till 1920, the Reverend moved to a neighboring town, Corozal. Equipped with adequate knowledge of the game, he used the same technique and taught the sport to younger kids in order to gain more prominence in the town.
To create a more competitive and lively atmosphere, the Reverend created tournaments between the teams, which carries on to this day. Since then, the Naranjito team has gone from strength to strength. They are the most powerful franchise in Puerto Rico, having won a total of 23 championships, which is a record that’s not been broken till today.
