The Great One’s Most Impressive Records

A quick and entertaining sport, ice hockey attracts plenty of fans with hard-hitting, fast-skating action. The game has spread from Canada to gain popularity in the United States and Europe. And Ice Hockey has been around long enough to see a few legends arrive on the scene and make their mark.

In a game that involves a lot of stamina and power, being the greatest points scorer is definitely a record that stands out. There are plenty of amazing players who have come and gone, but the title of “The Great One” can only be aptly bestowed upon a player like Wayne Gretzky.

The Great One’s great legacy:

Canadian Gretzky had a long and storied playing career, which lasted almost two decades. During that time, Gretzky was responsible for setting some records which spanned his tenure across different teams. “The Great One” was known for primarily revolutionizing the game with his unmatched and superior speed and finesse.

Over the years as an ice hockey player, Gretzky was able to shatter a number of long-standing records in the game. These include the unprecedented record of having scored 894 goals. He was also able to earn four coveted Stanley Cups with the Edmonton Oilers and was named the MVP of the league a record nine times.

Such was Gretzky’s popularity, that his talents saw him being employed on the other side of the border. He was traded to the Los Angeles Kings in 1988 and helped popularize the sport and cement his legacy.
