The Worst Trades in Sports History

In the world of sports, trading players is one of the most common activities. Teams are always looking to bolster their squads and make them better for the season ahead. That being said, a lot of teams have let go of players they deemed were unworthy, and have been proven wrong.

Here are some of the worst trades in sports history:

  1. Scottie Pippen to Chicago:

When the Seattle Sonics traded Pippen in exchange for Olden Polynice, they thought they were making a sound trade that would set them on their way for the 1989 season. Pippen, in return, was traded to Chicago Bulls, and the rest is…let’s just say, history.

Olden Polynice went on to be a flop for them, while Pippen went on to win 6 titles with the Bulls in the decade that followed, forming a formidable duo with Michael Jordan. He also ended his career as one of the greatest of all time.

  1. Brett Favre to Green Bay Packers:

The Atlanta Falcons made a big mistake when they sent their rookie Brett Favre off to the Green Bay Packers as a first-round pick. They didn’t think he would suit their style of play and wrote him off without giving him a proper chance.

They lived to regret the decision. Brett Favre went on to become not just a Packers legend, but also one of the GOATs. He won the “Iron Man Award”, with three NFL MVPs and a Super Bowl as well.

  1. Mo Salah, Kevin de Bruyne from Chelsea:

Chelsea FC is known to be the master of throwing away some amazing talents, and on top of this pile are Kevin De Bruyne and Mo Salah. The two current Premier League stars were once part of the same setup and were sold to Wolfsburg and Fiorentina respectively.

Since then, they’ve both developed to become two of the best players in the world, and are their team’s talisman. To add more salt, the two have also scored against Chelsea on a few important occasions.

Which one do you think was the worst transfer of all time?
