Training Focus: Football Off-Season

The off-season is a period where athletes have to keep their bodies fresh while also indulging themselves a little. If you’re a football player and are waiting on the offseason, a little training can help you.

Here are some tips to help you during this period:

  1. Detailed warmup:

Your workout must have a detailed warm-up because it’s the perfect time to focus on getting the corrective exercises right, and focusing on movement quality.

Understand the goals of your warm-up, and these are:

  • To stimulate the central nervous system
  • Increase the heart rate
  • Enhance better movement quality
  • Activate muscle

In order to achieve them, you need to switch up your warm-up exercises to avoid a plateau.

  1. Don’t include treadmills:

Treadmills aren’t the best way to work out because you need to smartly include them in your plan. You might just be misusing this time when it can be placed elsewhere.

Instead of going to the treadmill for warmups, you should use the time to work on other full-body movements. This includes coordination, mobility and specific training programmes like step-ups, ladders, crawls, tumbles and more.

  1. Scheduling runs:

Running is important when it comes to physical preparation when it comes to football. Make sure no matter what running regimen you employ, it doesn’t go past 3 miles.

The occasional jog can be fun, so don’t restrict yourself from the same, but understand that there many more things that you can be doing.
