One of the most reliable solo exercises you can enjoy is jogging, or running. It raises your stamina levels, your endurance, and can be great for cardiovascular health. One of the first pieces of running equipment you need to invest in is a good pair of shoes. The right shoes can help you improve your running technique, while helping to prevent injury.

Here’s how to choose running shoes for your need:

  • Consider the place you’re planning to run – Plan out your running path. Are you running on streets, gravel, synthetic track, grass, or another surface? There are different choices for common running surfaces, including cross-training shoes, trail-running and even road-running options you can consider.
  • Decide the underfoot cushioning – Understand your preferred level of cushioning. The thickness of the material under the midsole and the heel drop are two of the important factors that go into building the shoe.
  • Understand if you require support – Most runners aren’t able to choose a neutral shoe, but in case the foot tends to roll far inside or outside, there are shoes which can help you correct your footing.
