Baseball: Bucket of Balls Drill

One of the best ways to get better at your game is through smart drills. There are plenty of amazing options out there for those who want to get better at their game and improve hand-eye coordination.

In baseball, one of these popular drills is the bucket of balls drill. Here’s what it entails:

What is the drill all about?

The aim is to create a fun competition that allows players to concentrate on fielding and throwing. In the drill, various bases and a bucket or bag of balls are included in the infield.

All infield positions are included in the setup to make it interesting.

How does it work?

  1. Begin the drill by hitting a ground ball to the third baseman, who will then throw to first base.
  2. The first baseman will then toss the ball to the catcher, who will toss it to 3rd, who will then place the ball in the bucket.
  3. Then, a ground ball to the SS with a throw to 1st, followed by a ground ball to the catcher, who will throw it down to 2nd, then over to 3rd and into the bucket.
  4. Keep track of any mistakes you make or whether you forget to put the ball in the bucket. The target is to complete the drill without making any mistakes.
  5. You can have two groups and battle between them if you have two players in each role.
  6. Players rotating places is also a good drill for the start of the season or tryouts.
