Basketball Shooting Drills

One of the most important skills for a good basketball player is their shooting ability. If you’re an aspiring player, you need to always ensure that your shooting skills are on point. While you can’t guarantee every shot going in, the more you practice, the more you reduce your errors.

Here are a few good basketball shooting drills to practice:

  1. Catch and Shoot

This is a good drill where you ask a player to stand at random points in and around the basket. They can be anywhere – outside the three-pointer line, inside the ring or even right under the basket.

The point of the exercise is to ensure that they can shoot from anywhere, so hurl a ball at them and encourage them to shoot within a second of catching it. This drill can improve their agility, while also giving them the right practice to land a buzzer-beater.

  1. The fake shot

The fake shot is a situation where a player is facing away from the basket, and is marked by an opponent from behind. Here, it’s important to shield the ball away from the person defending, while also being able to spin and shoot.

In such cases, players should fake one step to the right/left and quickly turn away, fade away and shoot. This is a highly useful technique and can help players land the hardest shots with the highest accuracy.

With these tips in mind, we hope you can teach your players two of the most popular and fun shooting drills in the game.
