Major League Baseball’s Remarkable All Star Game Moments

When the first all-star game was played back in 1933, it was done with the aim of providing some entertainment during the Great Depression. Over the years, there have been some incredible records, some amazing plays and a whole lot of fun. Here are some remarkable All-Star Game moments:

  • 2008:

The greatest players in baseball bid goodbye to the old Yankee Stadium in the most spectacular way possible.

Appropriately, the 2008 All-Star was an absolute classic. Morneau ran home to collect on Michael Young’s bases-loaded sacrifice fly to give the American League a tough, epic win in the 15th inning, matching for the longest All-Star game of all time.

  • 1955:

When the AL scored four runs in the first inning on a wild pitch, along with a three-run blast by Mickey Mantle, the game appeared to be over. Later in the inning, the Junior Circuit added another run to take a 5-0 lead that led into the bottom of the seventh, when Hank Aaron and Willie Mays scored to reduce the lead to just three.

However, thanks to a walk-off home run by Stan Musial, the Senior Circuit completed the comeback to make it one of the greatest All Star games of all time!

  • 1941:

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Joe Gordon and Joe DiMaggio were on base. Ted Williams of the Boston Red Sox hit a walk-off home run off of Claude Passeau of the Chicago Cubs.

This comeback may not have been possible if Joe DiMaggio hadn’t reached base thanks to Billy Herman’s relay throw which had pulled first baseman Frank McCormick off the bag.
