Softball Drills You Can Do Indoors

One of the most popular outdoor sports in the United States, softball is also a game that can be practiced indoors. If the weather is bad, or conditions require you to stay indoors, you can still keep yourself fit.

Here are some great softball drills to do at home:

  • Ball handling:

This first drill will help you develop your ball-handling skills. It’s best if you spend as much time as possible with a softball in your hands. That’s why you can do this exercise while watching TV or just lounging around the room.

Take a softball and pass it across your torso rapidly from your abdomen to the back, then repeat the motion. Be sure to alternate between clockwise and counterclockwise rotations many times. See how far you can go without losing your balance.

Then, repeat the process with your legs, passing the ball in a circular motion around each knee.

  • Right-Left throw:

Hold your hand over your glove and pretend to catch a ground ball after tapping the ground.

Then, in a sideward advance, go through the remaining footwork steps and walk across on your right and then left leg. Bring your hypothetical ball into the body as you do so, and then draw your arm backwards like you’re about to throw it forward on the next sideward movement.

  • Wall ball:

Fling the ball against a wall and grab it as it bounces back to you. Keep enough space between yourself and the walls so the ball can bounce off from the wall, onto the ground before returning to you to catch. Don’t toss the ball too far up in the air!
