Training Focus: Soccer

Soccer is one sport that has so many training drills that can be worked on from time-to-time. It’s important that you, or your team follow some basic ones to get the best output in the game.

Here are three such awesome training drills:

  • The cone dribble:

This is one of the best drills to train forwards and wingers how to dribble. Place cones around 50 cm from one another. Then, ask the player to dribble through these cones, and encourage them to use both feet.

This exercise helps them get a better feel for the ball during the game and also tackle opponents when required.

  • The one-touch pass:

This is yet another exercise that can improve the game of your midfielders and defenders. It’s simple. You roll the ball to them, they receive it in one touch and pass it with the second. This allows them to make decisions faster and keep the fluidity of a move going.

It’s also a great way for them to release the ball correctly under pressure and not give it away.

  • The shoot:

It’s the currency of soccer – goals. This is one exercise any attacking player must master to get themselves the best chance of scoring. Roll the ball from their sides and encourage them to find the goal, even with a goalkeeper in place.

This exercise provides players with the confidence to shoot even under pressure.

With these three exercises, you and your team can improve your basic skill and use them to improve their game over time.
